Hi! I'm Jia Lin, a final year undergraduate in NUS.

I code + design.

I am currently seeking full time opportunities in software engineering, and will be available starting June/July 2018.

OVERVIEW

I discovered my passion for user interface design and user experience while going through various types of courses in college. Having gone through courses in game design and human-computer interaction had exposed me to the world of design, and its importance in creating products that are user-centered. My goal by the end of my undergraduate journey is to be able to combine both code and design together well, creating the most optimal user experiences.

I care about writing clean and maintainable code.

This site is a constant work in progress as I will add tweaks and features and new stylings along the way.

PAST WORKS

The span of my past works range from creative to technical - I enjoy hands-on activities, from drawing and prototyping to coding, and enjoy seeing such tasks to the end. I try to apply as much UI/UX design principles to my works as well. For example, I have developed iterative designs with my game design project team last semester, to come up with a simple and yet intriguing game (see below) for users to play, regardless of their background in gaming!

D3 Visualizations

Using open civic data and Github commit frequency data, I made visualizations using D3 over the span of a week. Check it out here.

This is my first foray into Illustrator work. You may view this image in the link as well!

CatCors - Static website (Bootstrap) built in < 24 hours as part of a hackathon

CatCors allows users to perform a series of actions on the application’s homepage to secure their NUS modules.

Code repo here. I was one of the team members and contributor.

HungryStillMustWait

Made an Android application in a team of 2 from May 2015 to Aug 2015. Was in charge of integrating Google Maps API into the application.

Named HungryStillMustWait, our application is designed to let office workers pick their lunchspots through viewing queue timings of these places, through user-generated input.

Currently in the process of redesigning UI for the application, rest of the screens are on Behance.

The above are the home screen wireframe and mockup.

Cats & Dogs>, a single-level game made using Unity 5. I was lead programmer on the team of 4. Done in Unity, C#, Javascript, over a span of 6 weeks. Above is the splash screen of our game.

A demo of the game in action can be viewed here! A copy of the game can be provided based on request :)

EXPERIENCES + SKILLS

I have had prior experience interning at a web and mobile development company, where I took on the tasks of ensuring the responsiveness of the client’s websites across various devices such as kiosks, web and mobile browsers.

Throughout my stint there, I was constantly challenged in my ways of thinking towards UI/UX design as well as its combination with front-end development, and that made me more convinced to take on the exciting challenges in these two main areas.

    UI/UX Summer Internship

    May 2016 - Aug 2016

  • I do wireframing, usability testing, and front-end development using React (and Redux) with RoR.
  • Codigo

    Dec 2015 - Jan 2016

    • Learnt in depth about UX workflow
    • Researched on wireframing tools, and took initiative to familiarise myself and do basic hands-on with wireframing tools such as Balsamiq, UXPin, and Sketch.
    • Tested responsiveness of client's website screens across both web, mobile browsers, and kiosks
    • Produced wireframes and simple mockups for redesigns of mobile application to mentor
